Scattered Thoughts by Charity Stewart
Poem of the Month contest entry

Love fades as time passes.

Withdrawal curse begins as the high crashes.

All good things in life don't last.

Disease robbery, too late for a mask.

Aching roots planted in my system.

Watching the news, wondering who's the next victim.

In our lives we have roots, branches and leaves.

God created all we need.

Somehow we still aren't pleased.

Painful obstruction so I continue to wheeze.

Most of our role models are locked up diseased.

Wickedness covers the earth, God is displeased.

The reason we suffer from menstruation is because of Eve.

Adam ate from the tree of life because he was deceived.

Spirit of drunkenness will not enter the kingdom of heaven.

Praying for redemption while partaking drink number seven.

My job treats me like a garbage disposal.

Pleading my case as a lead nurse but they won't accept my proposal.

Life won't break me even if I bend.

Unchanged behavior so I can't make amends.

Killers shooting bullets eagerly like opening up a Christmas present.

Unable to change the world so I feel like a peasant.

Too many snakes in my life, I had to mow it.

Mistakes I learned from are seeds, I had to sow it.

Tough love, my emotions I don't show it.

Becoming a better person, working hard to grow it.

Toxic relationship, time for me to tow it.

Blessed with a second chance trying not to blow it.

Thoughts to myself, wrap it in a blunt and roll it.

Thoughts to myself, written from deep down below it.
