Take me to Bierstadt's mountain lake
serenely still today
where I shall settle by the shore
and let my fancies stray.
The straight-spined fir and burly spruce
are pleasant company,
their soothing calm and vigilance
so comforting to me.
Those jagged peaks that crowd blue sky,
the glist'ning glaciered pass,
stave off invaders, smother sounds
offensive, vile or crass.
Two white-tailed does that amble by
create a special mood
of harmony, serenity
and restful solitude.
A stranger to this wondrous world,
I must accept noblesse
oblige to never interfere,
disturb or cause distress.
