Pearl Harbor December 7, 1941 by Dick Waters
Remembering Pearl Harbor writing prompt entry

December 6 – A date, just like any other date

December 7 – A date, that will live forever in memory

Ocean waves coming ashore

Plane waves coming on shore

Sun creeping into the sky

Sun on wings hovering in the sky

Birds signaling a beautiful morning

Bullets and bombs ruining the day

A peaceful green island paradise

A red and yellow horror scene

Men and women previously strangers

Men and women dying for each other

A country living peacefully each day

A country begins to fight for each day

Families praying for their loved ones

Families mourning their loved ones

Great ships floating in the harbor

Great ships settling to the bottom

Men and women were just human beings

Men and women were made into heroes

Pearl harbor was previously just another military base

Following December 7, it became a memorial to those who sacrificed

Our leaders never saw that danger coming

Do our leaders see other dangers approaching?

Author Notes
Following December 7, 1941- two family members met in Pearl Harbor. He was a pilot and she was a nurse, they dated, and fell in love. I married the result of that love affair. They both are inurned now at Arlington cemetery in VA. Something great did happen because of that 12/7 event. Written for Dan, my step-son.
