When a poet dies

words go into mourning;

a flock of lonely birds crying against empty sky.

As this soul passes,

great forests tremble,

troubled by a sudden emptiness of heart and spirit.

The roiling sea falls still,

turns in upon itself

and sighs its grief, a world-has-ended sigh.

Our once chattering lives

now hang silent,

bereft of speech, de-tongued by tragedy.

The heavens alone rejoice.

They celebrate this death

as the joy-filled birth of an angel of light.
