I looked out of my window,
at the fire in the sky.
The sun was setting westward,
with the evening drawing nigh.
A warm wind started blowing,
leaves were dancing on the trees.
A gentle rain was falling,
with a scent quite sure to please.
A field off in the distance,
awash with summer flowers.
Is home to creatures creeping 'round,
they move about for hours.
In darkness I find comfort,
as a peaceful world now sleeps.
At least from where I'm sitting,
though the rest of it may weep.
In the darkness, no one sees me,
while my mind slows down its pace.
There are spirits in the darkness,
roaming free through time and space.
I tarry there for hours,
letting dreams begin to soar.
My heart is flying with them,
now, just who could ask for more?
Alas, the light of day intrudes,
much too bright, too stark for me.
But duties wait, I must attend,
from which I can't break free.
My peace is found in darkness,
where the sunsets glow at night.
A field awash with flowers,
brings to me such sheer delight.
