I remember the feeling of winning. At least, I sort of do. It had to be long ago. Maybe months ago...could it have been years ago?

I am not sure. But the point is, I have not won anything in a very long time.

And now comes this contest for losers.

I'm not sure I should enter it. How am I going to feel if I lose a contest for losers? Oh! The disgrace of it all.

I decided to ask my consultant, the guy in the mirror, "What do you think? Should I write an entry?"

"Well, if the shoe fits, wear it, loser...what size is that, 14?"

"No, it's 13. But what should I write about?"

"The old axiom about writing is 'Write what you know.' And if there is anything you know, it is losing, so write about that."

"I don't know. On the plus side, all those really good writers will not be entered."

"Excellent point, and if you keep the word count down, you will not mess it up so badly. You do know everyone on that committee knows you to be the rank amateur you are."

"But if I lose the losers contest, all those A+ listed writers like Dolly, Debi, Gypsy, Wendy, Lyenochka, Jay, Sandra, Barbara, Humpwhistle, Lance, and a bunch of others will laugh at me."

"Lookie here, Bucky, they already laugh at you, and besides, it's a blind contest. I say give it your best shot."

"My best shot comes in a whiskey glass."

"Okay, I say have a shot and go for it!"

"By golly, I will. Do you think I should promote it?"

"Oh hell no, don't be stupid, too!"
