The violin will always be
an instrument of choice.
A virtual utopia
of heaven's holy voice.

An orchestra of violins
can make one laugh or cry.
The noval sounds of blues and jazz
the maestro can't deny.

Staccato notes are mastered by
the violinist's bow
performed with a dramatic flair --
a virtuoso show.

From classical to western songs,
the fiddle can be heard.
I love these instruments with strings
that speak without a word.

The repertoire of melodies.
The soaring trill of notes.
With heart and soul in each refrain
and sounds that seem to float.

A handsome Stradivarius
adds magic to each song.
An opus that reverberates
and carries you along.

Its smooth design is made of wood.
Its beauty fully planned.
But as for me, it's ivories
on my sweet baby grand.

Author Notes
I love stringed instruments and I have a pochette or pocket fiddle that was developed in 18th century Europe by teachers traveling from town-to-town for dances or for teaching. I found the one I have in a thrift shop many years ago. I had a luthier repair it and it is quite lovely.

Thomas Jefferson is said to have owned at least two pochettes.
The great luthier Antonio Stradivari is said to have made a few pochetts in his day and two are known to have survived to modern times. I doubt very much if mine is one of them. If that were so, I would be writing this from my villa in the French Rivera instead of from North Carolina. (smile)
