Amanda's Adventure by LisaMay
Lost - Flash Fiction writing prompt entry

Amanda had been walking for several hours, deeper and deeper into the forest. Growing tired, she decided to stop for a lunch break and rest beneath a large tree. She closed her eyes for a few minutes but now, on looking around at her surroundings, everything was worryingly unfamiliar.

Her scalp prickled with fear and regret. She hadn't heeded her father's advice to never go into the forest alone.

Where's the track I was on? Surely those jagged rocks weren't there before? I don't remember walking through a gorge.

In high anxiety, Amanda realized she would have to enter the narrow canyon to follow the path. A waterfall trickled from high above, its spray forming a misty curtain. Walking hesitantly, she pressed on into the gloomy gorge, then with foreboding sensed she wasn't alone.

I gotta get outa here!

Amanda broke into a sprint, but too late, she'd been caught by something! A python dragged Amanda down and wound itself around her, squeezing the breath from her shuddering body while trying to pull her deeper amongst the rocks.

Valiantly, Amanda struggled free of the reptile's coils, and leapt to her feet. She stood trembling, momentarily disoriented. All was still and eerily quiet.

The tree Amanda had been sitting beneath in the forest was backlit by the afternoon sun, its branches snaking in long shadows across the ground. The grass had been dampened by a passing shower of rain, but the sun's dappled warmth was slowly overcoming the lingering chill in the air.

I must've been lost in my own thoughts for quite a while. Oh, the power of imagination!

Amanda couldn't wait to get home. Thankfully, the track back to the trail head and her waiting car was now obvious.

If I remember what happened while I was lost in my daydreaming I'll be able to write about it and post something for FanStory.
