To my favorite vet
On Veterans Day
I salute you
the captain of my soul
the major of my life
my one and only wife
Who chose to serve
Your adopted homeland
So many years ago,
It seems like yesterday
When you put on the uniform,
And began decades of service
And I followed you
To the ends of the world
Just to be by your side.
As you answered
The call of service
To make the world
A better place
For having been there.
And now as time goes by
Our memories begin to fade
But they can’t take that away
From you.
For you served your country
And will forever be my hero
And our national treasure. |
