Reading poems to the oldest book club in Ohio
Booklovers by Gordon Alexander
Share A Story In A Poem contest entry

A dream of mine came true today,

Good fortune seemed to smile my way.

Ten ladies asked would my poems I read,

My answer was “Oh yes indeed!”

These book club members each so unique,

An unknown poet they had asked to speak.

And they seemed to like the poems I read,

The opposite of which was mine to dread.

Instead, unvarnished conversation,

That turned out for me a memorable occasion.

They probed inquisitively for my inspiration,

My answers spontaneous without hesitation.

Since writing a book is like baring your soul,

For ten Booklovers to read mine was joy untold.

Author Notes
One of the book club members asked might I find inspiration for a poem from this occasion. That thought stuck with me the rest of the day. It was a sense that I could be totally honest with this group of Booklovers and felt free to do so.
