"Wait… tell me you wore the red top I made you get when we went shopping last month?" "Yes! Red is your color, girl." "I know. I can't wait to visit again.” "I miss you, too. So much." "Oh! For example, if you were to overhear a phone conversation, you could only hear half of it. The reader must be able to work out what's going on from that half. No writing outside of the dialogue.
