The Man by isabelteeth
A poem about a Man contest entry

His apology approaches me swaggering

Blood drips from his lips like pointed jewels

His pride in a steadier flow than any pebble of gravel can interrupt

In another room my best girls, far away,

Giggle at each other's outfits with adoration

He is confused. How can we love each other without mistake?

We're connected by smirks of understanding

We've done enough forgiving to heal four lifetimes of men

Learned to be kind, accustomed to his words, fiery, proud, abrupt

His eye contact singes me with history

His growth watches like sun in stained-glass

Bloody. We did this at twelve, poor tadpoles in his deep lake.
