A Good Girl by A.Z. Schott 100 Word Flash Fiction contest entry |
“Ginger? Here, girl!" I fly into his arms and kiss his face. "Oh, who's a good girl?" His fingers scratch behind my ear. Today’s going to be a great day! He reaches for my leash, and we walk down the street. We get to a new building. So many dogs! So many smells! So exciting! He hands my leash to a stranger. He looks at me again. He's not smiling. “I’m sorry.” He walks away. What’s wrong? I try to follow him, but the stranger won't let me. Where is he going? Why? I thought--I was a good girl.
