Sericulture: the production of silk from the rearing of domestic silk worms (Bombyx Mori.)
These ghostly worms, totally dependent on their human masters, preferentially eat white Mulberry leaves.
When the larvae (worms) pupate they weave a protective silk cocoon within which to transform into an adult moth. The incredibly thin, lustrous silk fibres are between 500 and 900 metres in total
length when painstakingly unravelled.
The Art Work depicts an elegant Oriental lady wearing a silk dress.
