It's best if we remember this, the blessings not the curse,
To everyman that's given life redeem this word in verse.
I've mostly been a hopeful man who holds unto life's trust
I will not ever cast my lot, make worry wisdom's thrust.
For once I spent those wasteful ways with arrogance my guide,
I never thought of other things as flying on death's ride.
Yet I had dreams, embracing good, where one day I'd reside,
where love and grace revealed her face and wooed me to her side.
But there are many stumbling stops, addiction was my god,
till one fine day when I wore chains I faced death's miry sod
Yet God had not forgotten me, I saw that chasm's yawn,
He touched my heart with Heaven's love, and stirred salvation's dawn.
Yet God is never late to save, to rescue drowning men,
and yet he rescued this doomed man and led me through life's fen.*
