Memories of the Past by cupa tea Chamber of Horrors contest entry |
The room, at one time, had been green. Now it was a sickly shade of green with peeling wallpaper which showed the old, now turning yellow with age, whitewash beneath. Large slices of it lay around the room crumpled up in little piles stained with spotted blood. The entire room had that old smell to it. The old smells the room carried made you think like something died not long, and the remembrance of it hung in the air and gave the room a creepy feeling. The floorboards in places were curled up like some happy girls curls gone sour with mistreatment. In one area there was a hole in the floor with the bloody sheets from the bed peeking out. Under the bloody sheets was a notebook filled with words in another language and hand drawn pictures of nude women hanging from a rope with broken necks and body parts missing. Filth covered the floor mixed with various pieces of fabric which resembled clothing ripped the hell out of as it’s occupant was fighting for their life to get away from someone or to get out of the clothing. The bed sat in the middle of the room with the door leading to the rest of the house on it’s left side. An empty picture frame hung on the wall behind it now dangling on one nail without the picture it once held. Just beside it a huge knife stuck from the wall. The blade was buried deep so that only the bloody handle was visible in the room. Looking closely at the knife one could see devil worshipers carvings on it. Near the top were scratched off portions, tally marks, giving one the idea that with each killing the knife’s owner hand marked them off. So far there were almost ten markings. The nightstand, located on the right side of the bed sat on it’s side pretty much bushed apart with an ax which still rested in it’s side. The handle, like the knife, was covered with tally marks. The carvings were somewhat different and deeper carved into it’s handle. But, with inspection one knew they were devil carvings. Papers hung out of the top drawer of the nightstand. Some were shredded while others lay loose across the floor spotted with finger size spots of blood. One of the books, laying just under a piece of the nightstand that was splintered, had the title,”Devil’s Progeny,” as it’s title. The light, that had been sitting atop it was shattered in pieces. The lamp shade, once a beautiful shade of blue, was now faded in places. Light and dark blue faded in and out of it all around. The carpet, laying on the floor beneath the bed, had rips in it where the ax, had been used to chop up the floor under it. At the foot of the bed where the carpet ended a large pool of blood lay dried and brownish from years of neglect. Above the bloody rug stained floor a hole could be seen in the ceiling. A crippled light swung of it’s own accord back and forth, back and forth. At anytime it could fall. But something, unseen, seemed to be holding it in place while pushing it back and forth back and forth. Above the door leading out into the hallway a dirty noose hung. Parts of it had thinned with age. The nails that held it up had been pounded into the ceiling deeply and still remained as if it had been waiting all these years to be used. Beyond the bed further down the wall was the closet. The door was the type that had slats in it to let in air and light. These slats were covered in dust. Most were broken into many parts all scattered across the floor of the closet among clothing that no longer hung on hangers. In the corner, just halfway up the wall hung a spider’s web filled with flies and other small insects. The spider rested on the edge of the web near an old purse which had changed colors with age and was most likely filled with baby spiders waiting to be born. Surprisingly enough most of the clothing in the closet still hanging on hangers was in good repair. Everything within smelled of old. But, the clothing wasn’t faded. Nothing else remained in the closet except a few empty shoe boxes filled with torn old pictures that were no longer in focus and needed to be discarded.
