What YOU see in the mirror
when you stand at attention,
dominates your thinking
in several ways that I'll mention.
If I'm not mistaken
and you're in the average range,
your thoughts go immediately
to the things that you'd change.
You think you're too short,
or you think you're too tall.
When your friends don't agree,
YOU dismiss them all.
Your hair's not the right color
or it has WAY too much FRIZZ.
You long for more curl
or wish it looked "just like his".
Your nose is too pug
or too tiny and petite,
you've never been comfortable
with the size of your feet.
Too much of this or . . .
Too little of that . . .
What some would call "CURVY"
you just call FAT!
It's OK to wear makeup
and change the color of your hair.
You should watch what you eat
and get out of that chair.
But, the problem is perception,
and it's abundantly clear.
You are at odds
with your creator so dear.
You wish that he'd made you
in ways that you're not.
It's time to refocus
on the things that you've got.
We're made to God's specifications,
and HE likes what HE sees.
We can trust our master designer
knowing He's the one to please.
The phrase I once caught
and won't soon forget,
is fresh on my mind
and schooling me yet.
It can bring HEALING to the spirit,
to the soul it's a salve.
"The art of happiness is . . .
wanting what you already have"!
