A Walk Through The Woods by Boogienights
3 Words In A Poem Contest Winner

One day quite bored, with nothing to do,
I decided to hike for an hour or two.
Left behind my cell phone, purse and keys,
seeking peaceful solitude among the trees.
In nearby woods, so dark and deep,
I had no promises to keep.
Along the trail I hoped to spy,
an interesting animal passing by.
For miles my quiet footsteps fell,
so much so, that I could tell,
I was being followed close behind.
If I turned now, what would I find?
A sudden chill crept over me,
I dared not turn, too scared to see.
My imagination ran amok,
to die out here would really suck.
A short time ago, I was safe at home.
Oh, why did I decide to roam!?
Like victims in a horror flick,
my heart sped up and I felt sick.
Then stopped, like those in movies will,
frozen in place to await the kill.
I slowly turned expecting to see,
a serial killer or hairy Yeti.

Instead I found....

A long thin branch hooked on my pants,
that I dragged along on my trail dance.
Relief coursed through me, I wouldn't die!
I headed back home, by and by.
Along the way an eagle flew,
and a family of foxes came passing through.
So glad these sights, I got to see,
though wild imaginings bested me.
That branch now sits in a corner vase,
and brings a smile to my face.
