I play with shadows of the night,
they live inside of me.
I hide within them from the light,
where no one else can see.
I keep my thoughts hid in the dark,
if others read my mind,
a desperate, pain filled cry for help,
is all that they would find.
A loneliness that permeates,
clings to me like a shroud.
My emptiness is silent, yet,
I hear it scream out loud.
"There's somebody for everyone",
is what Mom used to say.
Perhaps she's right, I'll find someone,
but it won't be today.
Because the shadows have returned,
once more the games begin.
With rules that I can't understand,
impossible to win.
Still...the shadows that are trapped inside,
provide me company.
Will I soon disappear in darkness?
I guess we'll have to see.
