I was walking past a house one day,
When I heard a soft voice say,
Come up on my porch and visit awhile.
You look like you've walked many a mile

A little old lady was sitting there
Quietly resting in her rocking chair.
I've been praying for some company
Just someone to talk to me.

I don't get visitors anymore.
There's never a knock on my front door.
No one wants to talk to me,
My hearing's bad, and I can barely see.

I once had a family, you know,
God came for them, they had to go.
My husband passed in ninety-three,
Said he'd wait in heaven for me.

My little girl died when she was seven,
Now she's also up in heaven.
My boy was killed in Vietnam,
Fighting that war for Uncle Sam.

Seems like God has passed me by,
He has a reason, but I don't know why.
Maybe someday, I'll hear him say,
Come with me, no loneliness today.

I hope I haven't bored you with my talk.
Sorry, I interrupted your exercise walk.
Maybe you can visit me again,
I'm always here just let me know when.

Just as I turned to walk away,
With tear stained eyes, I heard her say.
It was very nice of you to stay,
You just made this old lady's day.
