Inverted Refrain - Potlatch Practice
Wimpy Woolies by damommy

The flock of sheep upon the hill
stood tightly-knitted in a bunch.
I wonder if they’ll be there still
when I return from having lunch.
            Tight-knitted flock was standing still
there on the hill and having lunch.

I gave my wife two baby lambs,
not giving thought to any herd,
and soon were many ewes and rams.
They multiplied so fast. My word!
With many babies, ewes, and rams,
We had ourselves a tiny herd.

The time for shearing growing nigh,
I bought my love some pinking shears.
You ever see a grown man cry?
She clipped my hair like rabbit ears.
Too bad the shearing time is nigh –
I can’t go out with rabbit ears.

The woolies aren’t so wooly, now;
their fleeces spun to fuzzy thread.
Unmindful creatures, anyhow,
when everything is done and said.
            Unmindful creatures naked now,
their wooly fleeces spun to thread.

Author Notes
The first four lines of a stanza create a statement from which the last 2 lines extract the meaning, and invert the way it was said. The last two lines of each stanza, which are the inverted refrain, are indented as a couplet.
