The tide is low and a new landscape is seen
every day a new Mother Nature's scene.
Walking near water's edge I watch the eddies fight
against the outgoing currents with all their might.
The sun breaks low across the eastern sky
as the sparkles dance off the pebbles, teasing my eye.
I stand in awe of these new pebbles put here today
when a question comes to mind, how long will these stay?
Bending down to grab a handful, so smooth to my touch.
My mind reels in the knowledge that I hold centuries in my clutch.
As I thoughtfully replace the pebbles back onto the ground
I am humbled to think how few years I have been around.
Then, I look back at the pebbles with a sense of wonder
of all the currents to which these pebbles have surrendered.
Strolling away with the ocean over my shoulder,
I climb, to view the pebbles below, upon a boulder.
