Kindergarten Break Time by samandlancelot True Story Contest contest entry |
![]() When I arrived home from school, I begged my mother for the money to bring to school so I could have my milk, like everyone else in the class. With nine children to support at the time, she simply didn't have it to give. I hated school. I hated break time, I hated being poor, and I hated my parents. I pouted and was miserable as I sat in my seat and watched every student in the class go up to the teacher and get their milk, except for me. After several torturous days, the little boy whose milk I had enjoyed before, walked over to me and gave me his milk. I was so happy. I looked at the teacher, and she said it was okay. That day I drank the best milk I ever drank in my life. The next day, I assumed I wouldn't get milk again. I watched as everyone else went to get their milk from the teacher. She told the boy to come get his milk, and then she told me to come get mine. Someone had donated the money to pay for my milk, and I could have it every day from then on. The giver was anonymous, and it was not my parents. Whoever it was, I never forgot their kindness for a poor little schoolgirl who liked her milk at break time. And I never forgot the kind and generous little boy.
