In this trick of the light
your eyes sparkle,
and your smile is bright;
but I know (yes I do),
that it’s your tears that shone.
The light is now gone
and your smile has, too.
I’ll just walk away from this painful fact;
what’s left to say about how I react?
I’ll pay the full price, put my feelings on ice.
Why should I enter the fray of tearful display
when my aces weren’t backed
and you deny why you cry?
Can I still grin and bear my load –
ever repay you for what’s owed?
In each and every landscaped layer
mined for meanings and gleaning some findings,
as all our brights become greyer,
I’m side-stepping, avoiding remindings.
In this trick of the light
your eyes sparkle,
and your smile is bright;
but I know (yes I do),
that it’s your tears that shone.
The light is now gone
and your smile has, too.

Writing Prompt |
Sadness has overcome us all at one time or another. Either caused by a relative or close friend's death or from the girl or guy that broke our heart or just life in general. We all handle situations differently, some good, some bad. This contest gives us the ability to explore this. Your poem can also play into other emotions that are common to writing like this such as anger or depression. |
