My flaw is this, I suppose:
my life has been blighted
because I’m short sighted —
I can’t see what’s under my nose.
Oh yes, I confess, I’ve made a mess
by not noticing what I should.
Things have turned bad from good,
and I have misunderstood
through inattention some evil intention
that my trust has let through the door.
Now, let me just mention,
when my judgement is poor
I never keep score —
I can take so much more.
I’ll turn a blind eye, and I’ll always try
when my bum’s been bit to get over it,
and to focus on what lies ahead.
I’ll not peer with myopic dread
through my fogged-up specs
to what’s coming next,
or even what I’ve left behind.
I could be deaf, dumb and blind,
and even lose half my mind,
but I hope I’ll always be kind.
With hindsight I just might
not change a thing at all —
I always got by, I recall,
and even though I might fall
into the trap of a conniving chap,
along the way I had a ball,
because men made passes
at my rose-coloured glasses.
My vision’s now blessed —
I’ve just had a test
and can see what’s under my nose.
It’s my toes!
So, on speedy feet my life is so sweet,
I can keep ahead of the pack
and stay clear of that knife in my back.
