This poem is gorgeous, though at the same time highlights the poignancy of this truth. I love Cezanne's quote (seen for the first time) and think it so fitting with the accompanying images.
I like the fact that you have researched all of the animals shown and it made me think back to a documentary I watched about the White Rhino. It was a few years ago, but at that time there were only a handful that existed and they were very clearly under threat and being protected by a ranger. I would like to know how many of these White Rhinos are left.
Your poem is like each endangered animal; beautifully crafted, artistic and graceful. I hope that between your writing and my reading this that their numbers have not reduced much further.

Wow, thank you for this marvelous poem, Debbie. We go about our worldly work without being aware (sometimes) of the hazards we cause those creatures who are as entitled to life as we are -- poetry like this jewel raises awareness, and enough can't be said. Statistics tell us that we will lose between 0.01 to 0.1% of all species every year.

Even though it's impossible to pack much in these tiny poems, you've done very well and the notes are extremely interesting.
I'd never seen this mural/painting, but once you mentioned Warhol, I realised I should have guessed.
Thanks for sharing.

I enjoyed your play on words. It felt like you had to hold back with the limits of the contest. I would love to read how you would express this in your own personal writing style. Wishing you all the best.

Hi, Debbie,
This wonderful 5-7-5 expresses so much about the species disappearing from this world. How on earth can people ignore this fact? But they do, and the world keeps spinning.
Thank you for sharing and Good Luck in the contest,
~patty~

I enjoyed your 5-7-5 poem on the artistry of nature and the vulnerability of some of nature's creatures. I just watched a news item about the succvess of reintroducing the platypus into one of our National pars. Lovely presentation, Debbie,
cheers,
valda

I'd be very surprised if this doesn't win the contest. It's very well written and brings attention to endangered species. It's sad to think that one day they may be gone completely.

I think zoos are awful. Caging up animals. We are to blamewhen animals attack. They were here first. We encroach on their lands. We take and we kill. Boy, I need to climb down my soap box. Good work. Karen

Very good I don't know if this was a competition entry but I could see it winning a prize. I especially liked the final line Fragile Artistry. I always find the final line the hardest to write and feel it should be the strongest, yours was.

Hi Debbie,
It is so sad that so many animals are endangered mainly because man encroaches on their habitats to build homes or sometimes resorts.
We have lost so much to extinction and should work to lose no more.
Keep writing and stay healthy
Congrats on placing third in the contest.
Have a great rest of the day and week.
Joan
