This is an excellent authentically written poem. This will reach many people. Your presentation is very good, too. You use descriptive words and honesty, that will draw in a reader. Best wishes!

I don't think it falls short of being a great tribute to all soldiers whose wars still haunt them. I know for my father, (ww2) he was haunted by memories of his p.o.w. years for the rest of his life. A very poignant poem.
Cheers

You honor them memorably. Your poem combines the honor they felt fighting for our freedoms and also encompasses the nightmares they felt when they came home from that horrible war. Your last full stanza actually took my breath away.

Through the use of excellent rhyming couplets, you tell about the physical pain and emotional stress which, sadly, continues for too many service people who remain broken inside because of what they endured in their faithful service to our country. I am glad you have shared this striking poetic work with FS readers. Best wishes!

powerful and moving poem about Nam and the impact it had on the young soldiers who went to fight in that inglorious war so long ago. I loved the feeling of this poem, reminded me of my two visits to Vietnam in 1995 and 2019 just prior to COVID.

How much does the world suffer? How much does nature suffer? How much does humanity suffer? Is there any redeeming qualities or positive results from war?And the biggest oxymoron I've ever heard. Is the phrase a holy war. Give your head a shake people there's nothing holy about it.
Damage does not end when the war comes to a close. It continues and is sometimes passed on gene rationally. The effects go on and on.
It is very important to do what you just did and remind the world of all the because it's until you are utmost to avoid. Really great form fabulously written and a fine submission thank you again!

Amazing verse. You've come as close as any to capturing these veterans. During my RN Psych residency, I was assigned to the locked-ward, PTSD unit of Vietnam vets--at the Leeds, MA VA hospital.
These men were shattered in so many ways and stained by shattered dreams, true-to-life nightmares, and haunting survivors' guilt...
I vividly recall an orderly losing grip and dropping a lunch tray...every man on the unit hit the floor and covered their head.
It was an honor to get to know them. How great of you to volunteer to sit with these men who so often were rejected or forgotten by their country!

This is clearly a caring tribute to those who fought in a sad and futile war, and to the many who didn't really survive whole. How good of you to spend time listening to the stories of those still suffering from the wrenching memories long after returning. The only man I knew well who fought in that war did not come home at all. His helicopter was shot down while he was on a Medivac mission. Thank you for this beautifully rhymed and metered poem.
I had questions about one line:
***Aladdin on his carpet ride in tears. (Unless this is a command, I believe that should be "rides in tears," shouldn't it? ) You rarely make even a miniscule editing error, so I seldom find anything to suggest and tend to doubt myself when I do. Or, maybe you meant, "Aladdin, on his carpet ride, in tears." Commas can clarify meaning sometimes.
Let me know... if you have time. Thanks ~ MM

No, it is a singular "carpet-ride" not an active
"rides". Thanks.

Yes. I should have known. I see it now. ;?)

Yes, war is always horrible, but I suppose Vietnam more especially so, because of the futility of it all. The intention of it all was maybe good, but the execution of it was disastrous.
And now there is a war again. But this one is different. Ukraine and the West have to win this one. Ulla:)))
