I enjoyed your charming free verse for the contest. I love how this sweet little bird sits quietly with the pigeons waiting for romance to come to her.I can picture the damp morning after the rain with the blossoms all around.
A lovely entry. Good luck.

Hi Crystie,
This is a fun free verse from the birds point of view about her past time in Mexico and the coming mating season. I like the personification, metaphor and internal rhyme used through the poem.
It gives strong images even without the artwork.
Good luck in the contest.
Keep writing and stay healthy
Have rest of the great day.

Sweet. A lovely poem to usher in Spring. We are bird watchers and your poem was a delightful one as I sit on my back porch and watch the wrens, robins, cardinals, bluebirds and yes, the pigeons. I will now be looking for black phoebes.
Well done.
Blessings

Awwwwwwww!!! What a sweet free verse, and THIS is what is meant when we say poetry should be evocative. Not only did this wonderful poem paint delightful pictures in my mind, I could 'hear' the cooing of the pigeons, 'feel' the spirit of the adorable "Carmen" bird.
Best of luck in the contest!

One of the best things about FS is how much there is to learn about subjects I'd otherwise NEVER be privy to - like a bird called a Black Phoebe! Thank you for the enlightenment in the form of a delightful free-verse poem. I absolutely loved this part:
but is poised-like hope-among
the portly pigeon matrons.
Best of luck to you in the contest!! xoxo

This was a brilliantly written free-verse poem, my friend. I have to say, I had never heard of a black phoebe before. I enjoyed the line that spoke of the bird missing his warm winter home.
Great work.
God bless,
Steve

This is beautifully written about this lovely bird and I know you must enjoy it. I don't know that I have ever seen one or would know what it looked like if I saw it. May you have a wonderful day and may God bless your writing. Patricia.
