Sounds like Rosemary's Baby with a caterer. Mia Farrow, John Cassavettes and Ruth Gordon--living across the hall.
Naked on the buffet table in nice twist, and devouring of the newborn is absolutely gruesome. The play with fruit, and the fruits of her labor is inspired.

Peace, Lee

This is seriously messed up...good job.
This is the second story I've reviewed in a week that included infanticide, I seriously hope this isn't a trend.
I think you win the 'over the top' award for your story.
The whole 'naked on the table' gave me pause from the very beginning. You set the scene quite well, it was very descriptive and hooked me as a reader right away. The ending twist was well done too. Overall, a good piece if flash fiction.

Thanks, Michael. I appreciate your review.

You know, not too many have picked up on the fact that Father Tae' Morre's name is an anagram. The tactic was used in the recent horror films Silence of the Lambs, Jeeper's Creepers and Seven, starring Morgan Freeman and Brad Pitt. Father Tae' Moore...Father Eat Morre.

An anagram is a word or phrase formed by rearranging the letters of another word or phrase. The English word anagram goes back to 1589. Grambs uses the word transposal in this general sense, and anagram more narrowly to mean a transposal of letters resulting in synonymous term. Others call these particularly apt anagrams "aptigrams." For example: Villainousness is an anagram of "an evil soul's sin." ~Dean

Eeeewwwww, Dean, gross! With the kind of love she got from hubby and company, an enemy would probably be kinder. Jeeze, devouring one's young is too, too, as the Fonz would say, 'Gross amundo!"

My friend, you are in rare form with this one. Yes, indeed. Now I won't be able to sleep. Freddie Kruger would probably be kinder. (*<*)

Excellent write.

Cheers & Blessings

I really liked the Hannibal Lecter movies. You can't not like Anthony Hopkins -- he plays evil so well.

I Haven't seen 'Jeepers Creepers' and 'Seven'. I should think anyone who watches these movies on a regular basis should have picked up on the Father Tae' Morre's.

Well, my friend, there were A LOT of evil souls running amuck in this one. (*<*) Excellent write.

    Take it eezy peezy. Cheers

OMG! You outdid yourself on this one. At first, I thought, what a cool way to give birth. Maybe with all that fanfare, the pains could be ignored. Got a chuckle about the grapes on her breasts.
After several hours of intensive contractions and pushing--I felt you skimmed over this. Perhaps,

Licking and then sucking went on for several... Alana's body shook with both pain and pleasure. The priest continued to offer her wine. At last, the baby emerged, head first.

I suspect poor Alanna married a cannibal. Sigh...

Damn. I just gave the last six. This is horror on a plate, cordon bleu. I really think this concept for your book is brilliant. You have such a gift for the genre and an inexhaustible supply of scenarios. I loved the clever way you developed the scene with terrific descriptions. And yet, when the festivities began, the bizarre concept of a public birthing party almost seemed plausible. With the priest persist all seemed normal until they began sharing baby helpings (good for the diet conscious hehheh!) Perfect flash; perfect horror. And I did like the casual ending moving onto dessert. Just great!

Hi Dean,

I guess in keeping with the theme of the book, it could be subtitled 'Just Desserts' as this and my offering and the offering before that all concern themselves with child rearing which then transforms itself into 'child commandeering' with disastrous ends, at least for the surrogates (I dare not call them 'mothers')

I guess there may be no more takers to take shots at the 'tiny tales of terror' unless someone simply 'commandeers' the whole thing. There's a lot of reviews for the book. I realize that many if not more than a few of them are squeamish at writing horror. They've said so.

I hope this keeps going. Is it going stale? Is it going full sail? Do you think Johnny Depp as Captain Sparrow ought be proud? Do you think Hannibal Lector snores too loud?

Chew with your mouth closed. Think with your mind open.

Shane

No, I think more stories will slowly keep filtering in. As long as I keep posting tiny terror tales to the book, it shouldn't fade away...unless I do, of course.

Much obliged for your submission, your interest in the series and your review, my friend...~Dean

Dean: you bring awareness of so many interesting situations including this witchcraft ceremony. Wow, people would worship the idols of Eshter, orgies and all, then the following year through the young baby in the fire. Now, they call this Easter with fertility bunnies and eggs. I call the holiday Resurrection Sunday about Jesus the Risen Lord.

Some countries, the people think that the animal husks will cure them of cancer and aids. No many beliefs and so many innocent killed. People in America killed the buffalo for fun while the Native Americans used all of the animal. Look at all the abortions...ok, going too long. Good story and awareness, Dean, as always, a little (lot) shocking but you got a style of your own. I'll find mine! (Hope that I brighten your day!!!! Shining light in the darkness is my goal. God bless!

How horribly good that story is. It causes my skin to crawl. You sucked me right into the story and then grossed me out. You did a very good job.

Thanks so much for giving this story a shot, Okiegal. I don't know if saying that you "enjoyed" this would be the proper term to use in this instance, but I'm certainly glad to know the story entertained you. Your stellar rating and thoughtful comments are very much appreciated -- as they always are.

    Thanks so much again. ~Dean

We are writing to inform you that after careful consideration that "The Fruits of Her Labor" has been disqualified from the contest The Door Slammed.

The Door Slammed Contest challenges writers to write flash fiction beginning with this sentence: The door slammed, echoing down the hall.

Unfortunately, THE FRUIT OF HER LABORS does not begin with the required sentence, but with a quotation.

We are sorry, but we must disqualify the entry. As stated in the contest announcement, entry fees are used to form the contest pool and cannot be refunded.

That's why, Bob. But I truly appreciate you reviewing this just the same, my friend.

Oh my, this is dark, creepy, scary, and horrifying. That aside, it is superbly written and kept my full attention from beginning to end. You most definitely out-did yourself with this one. I will most likely have nightmares over this one.
