Jesse James,
This is an eloquent poem about something many of us take for granted. I like: ..."construction created with loving devotion..." your poem made me think of petting a dog, holding a baby, caressing a face.
Thank you for making me thing.
Good luck in the contest.
Best wishes and blessings,
Cindy

Thank you, Cindy, for your insightful and supportive comments. Yes, some of us do take it for granted. When we sit at a table, somebody built that table. We need to recognize how dependent we are on hard and physical labor. Thank you for this wonderful review.
    Have a good upcoming weekend,

I've worked all my life at jobs that required physical labor and I loved it. I admire people who give thier all in any job, but those who can use thier hands to build I especially envy. Thanks for sharing. :)

I would be proud, to do physical labor too, if I were you! My wife was a construction worker in her day, and I was proud to be with her!
Thank you for this awesome review, and excellent rating, too!
    Have a great day,

Another fine poem, Jesse; and that's the weird thing about maturing; you look back on some of things you thought and did as a younger man and cringe with embarrassment, or at least that's been my experience

Haha, that's been my experience as well, Mike. We are embarrassed as we grew up to see, how we felt as children, about things, including how we viewed our parents, and their advice.
Thank you for your kind words and excellent rating.
    Have a great night,

Yes, God's hands moved and created everything we know and will ever know. l enjoyed your thoughtful poem. Your words read well with a smooth flow and great imagery. Everyone is an individual and manual labor isn't for everyone. However, those that do choose it shouldn't be belittled. It takes the work they do to make things run smoothly.
Thanks for sharing.
Respectfully, Jan

Thank you for sharing, Jan. Your commentary states your case well. I am glad you enjoyed this, and agree that manual labor, isn't for everyone. But I also agree that those who do, give back to us tenfold by making things we use every day. Thank you for letting me share.
    Have a nice evening,

Kudos, Jesse, for an exceptional free verse poem told with keen perception. I have no six stars to send your way, but know that I am sending them to you virtually!
My own parents never enjoyed experiencing a college education. They both worked with their hands: my father owned a sheet metal and roofing corporation, and my mother was a master floral designer. Both grew up on farms. And they passed on to my sisters and me the value of working with our hearts and our hands as well... The did, indeed, "transform" many aspects of their/our lives by working with their hands.
Fresh images wonderfully expressed!

Thank you for sharing!

Hello Diane! Thanks for the virtual six and the history of your parent's upbringing and educational background. I wish my parents had valued hard work more. They both met, working in the library, of UCLA, and fell in love, and stayed together, till my father passed away some years ago. I am proud of that too. I just wish they could've seen, both sides of the issue of, white-collar, versus blue-collar, work. That would've made me very happy as an adult.
You must be very proud of your parents, and so, you should be.
Thank you for this marvelous review, my friend!
    Have a good upcoming weekend!

I forgot to add that despite their lack of a college educations, they were two of the most learned individuals I have ever known = consummate readers. And they passed their love of books and learning on to me... :)
Happy Weekend to you as well, Jesse!

Both my parent loved books. I remember reading 1984 and The Martian Chronicles, as well as On Walden Pond by Thoreau. Most kids my age were reading comic books.
I still love reading books rather than television. I read non-fiction mostly.
Have a happy rest of your life!

I am so pleased to read this poem. I am sick of people who believe that education is the be all and end all. Like you, I know that manual skills are extremely difficult to assimilate and should be greatly valued.

You are preaching to the choir, Katherine. I agree with you to the utmost of my background as a husband of a female construction worker! She could do it all!
Thank you for this supportive review and excellent rating.
    Have a great evening!

Oh yes, sometimes getting little respect the hard-working men and women doing the physical labor are most necessary in this world! Great offering with a wonderful message that some forget.

Yes, they do. Some writers are guilty of thinking that using the pen and their minds are the only valuable commodity, but they couldn't be more wrong about that!
It feels good to enlighten them as to the value of hard work.
    Have a beautiful day,
    Jesse
