Wow, this is impactful and poignant and gives us an eyeful for what has been going on with you. Caregiving for a loved one or anyone for that matter is hard, yet rewarding work.
I appreciate the explanation in your author's notes of what this poem means to you. It then made perfect sense. Waiting to go to the great beyond in Heaven or wherever.
Thank you for getting back into my life and radar.
Have a good day,
Jesse

This is a nicely done mono-rhyme 1-6-1 poem which defines where some of our light comes from and also shows your faith in angels and Heaven.
Good luck in the contest.
Keep writing and stay healthy

Hello Artasylum,
In the light of Author Note, it's a nice piece of poetry meeting the desired norms, having lovely rhyme 'white, light, flight,' and beautifully hinting at the theme.
Picture enhances depth and beauty of the poem.

I like the poem... It is a sad poem. Yet it is 'facts of life.' Birth, aging, sick and death stages of life.
I hope he has a wonderful life in reaching 99.
It is nice to express your feelings. Thanks for sharing.
PS; This is 1-5-1 poem not 1-6-1...

That's a peaceful view of the light that is calling to your father-in-law. Bless you and your husband for caring for him these last years. Wish everyone could be so blessed. So many this past year have taken their flight without even a goodbye because of Covid.

"Tonight", is short, succinct and delightfully descriptive. Woven through each short line are the golden threads of truth. Good luck with the contest.

Years ago, my wife and I were taking care of my 93-year-old grandmother. After she broke her hip, she started getting dementia. After three months, my wife wandered off and a couple hours later, gave me a call to come get her from across town. My wife had a nervous break down. We had no choice but to put my grandmother in a nursing home. Sometimes it's difficult to know what the right decision is. Sometimes it's just based on survival. I wish you luck.

It is... with the medicaid preferred system today, which is what 24/7 facilities are looking as clients... they are businesses after all... so, unless you can pay 4-5 thousand a month it is a very slow rolling train...
-
My grandmother went to the nursing home back in the 80's. There was no expense for us. Perhaps times have changed.
-
Unfortunately... money has become the decision maker...

I'm sorry for what you are all going through, and for what you've been through. It can't have been an easy two years, but the end has challenges all its own. I am praying for your father-in-law, that Jesus will take him into glory. Maybe you can pray with him -- maybe you already are. May God comfort you all.
It's a beautiful, heartfelt poem, with a very powerful image.
