A lovely, dated illustration goes well with this nostalgic poem. So many familiar but nearly forgotten names were in this poem, which helped me move backward quickly.
A larger and darker print/text would make for easier reading.
Well done. Thank you.

Hello Willie,
I remember well the the westerns, the Saturday morning matinee for kids
with a double feature.
All the others too, dance, comedy, crooners.
Superman, C M, and Batman were comic books for me, after I got paid for my paper route deliveries.
All this for a dime, which won't even buy a penny candy today.
Excellent poem with solid meter and rhymes.
Best wishes for a great new year.

This was a kind, genteel look at the past in the way certain movie or singing stars were remembered. I even learned something new with these lines: Previews of coming attractions
Were shown at the end of each reel.
I never realized that movie trailers were shown at the end until the beginning, but then, I was born at the end of the sixties. Nice share.

That part of the innocent past is so far gone that it can make you weep. We were so innocent then. Mass shootings, protest marches, political shenanigans unheard of, unthinkable. Oh they existed but not in our neighborhoods, not in our town even. Unknown to us, they were on the horizon, just waiting for the chance to make their evil appearance. I weep for those days forever gone by.

A wonderful sense of nostalgia evoked here for the 'Growing Old' contest- the process conveyed through the prism of Movies and how matters related have changed considerably

Hi Willie, like you my sweet friend...
I don't go back to the 50's...but I do
the 60's...some of the best times in my life...
when movies got up to a quarter...or fifty cents...
and I loved seeing and watching the singers, actors,
and the dancers you mentioned...those were the days...
when marriages were honored and respected...when women
and girls had morals...and boys had respect for their
girlfriends...
I love your poem...and love this precious picture...
so very well written...good luck in the contest...
love Linda xxoo

Wonderfully composed and executed poem. It sounds like life was much simpler and happier in those days. What a lovely rendition of your childhood memories.

Your poem has good rhyming and brings back memories of when we were young. This is a good entry for the Growing Old Contest. It is almost scary when we look at the prices of things today, but then we compare with the wages we received, it sort of balances.

So relatable! Those classics may have cost you a dime...but look at the payout! A lifetime of memories and enough "change" left to parlay it into poetry! The best part is as old as we are, as long as we're breathing, we still have the grace of "Previews of coming attractions..."

Hi Willie
This is grand, totally grand! A keeper for the family archives. I know you have to be close to my parent's age.
I do have one suggestion: my mind stumbled on the last line of your third stanza. It's the word 'animated.' The 4 syllables make it awkward. 3 would be better. You might want to try 'Walt Disney's' instead. (Animated cartoons is a little redundant anyway.)
I really loved hearing about when you and your girl could go to the movies for a dime. Wouldn't it be nice to be able to do that again?
Susan :)
