The words pull me so much into the poem that I start remembering my grandmother and parents and those moments when age has creeped but life still has us cocooned.

very powerful poem indeed about nighttime and the struggles of insominia. I can relate to this poem as I am 66 now not quite 72 I hope I will still be posting things on Fan story when I am 72. Like your prespective.

My Dad once told me "one night you go to bed young and wake up old." How ruddy true it is. I look at your poem and align it with my own falling down body. I am slightly older than you! Our minds are still working and we can teach the young that will listen to all the wisdom we have accumulated over our lifetimes. K xx

This is a study in free-form thinking, I guess, JLR. It felt like I was listening to your thoughts echoing your heartbeat, as you awoke from sleep and let your mind wander over the past and the present and then the day ahead. It seemed you were intentional in repeating certain words, like 'mind' and mindful and mindlessly, which probably contributed to my feeling of being inside your mind. You also used 'racing' more than once in different ways, and I found it all extremely interesting. I wish you much luck in this contest. MM

John thank you - remarkably age is a relative thing - I often wonder what ones reality would look like should we have the opportunity to reverse the cycle - begin old and regress to the beginning.

Very nicely written! This poem gives the reader a true and honest glimpse into the meaning and reality of reaching advanced years. It doesn't slip into silliness or self-pitty, but rather a message of simply, "this is how it is." I particuarily liked the phrase, "embrace the tug of heavy eyelids." Something about that hit hiome with me.
