Nicely written JLR. I wonder, after reading, how I gauge my sleep. Actually, it seems like I never sleep. Probably night owl...and on top of that, I can rise pretty early to write.
Nicely written. It is already late here, and seems I am in routine.
My best wishes.
RG

Thanks, I am the early riser type, no functionality after 22:00 when I usually am on the rise at 5:00 - I volunteer in the ER department two days a week from 6:00 to 11:00. Work out for two hours MWF at the YMCA, and in between, I attack my bride's task list and find time to write. Pretty straight routine.

Love this reply. great stuff. I wish I could list my time, just does not seem enough hours in the day...or night for me JLR. I hope to relax a bit soon.

I can identify with your words here and being able to get a good night's sleep is so important and I feel a sense of achievement if I can get 8 hours! Yet when I was younger I could sleep for 10 hours easily! Sharing a bed means you have to be careful not to wake the other person if you wake in the middle of the night, a snippet of your thoughts here, love Dolly x

I enjoyed reading your free verse poem. This is a good contest entry and should do well. I wonder, have you written this style of poetry before? Do you have a favorite style to write? Good luck in the contest.

K.L. Thank you, I find my best poetic voice coming through free verse, however, I really work hard to do the club writing prompts and explore other styles.

I like how you took us from the cycles of a busy mind, to mindfulness of the Creator of the mind, to Whom you could release all these thoughts. My favorite line was "embrace the tug of heavy eyelids."
Best wishes in the contest!

Exceptional
This work has reached the exceptional level

This was a six star poem for me, and I'll tell you why: I read every poem that I'm reviewing once silently, then again out loud. And it's the out loud reading that tells me the true story. You have a very distinct syncopation here, a genuine Voice for poetry, I think...almost a rapping kind of rhythm and internal half-rhymes that are really, really good. I hope you keep going with your natural talent, and I'd encourage you to read this or recite it in front of strangers. Good luck to you in the contest!

This was a good story in poem form. Thoughts come unbidden at the most inconvenient times. I don't know. Anyway, good job, and thanks for sharing this here.

I think as we age, life becomes, at least to a certain degree, reflective, and western society tends to think of its ageing population as a little less useful anyway, (not so eastern society) then there is great value in drawing from the past. Beautifully written, Jim, blessings Roy

I could not agree with you me Roy, I feel western society would benefit very much from capturing the respect of Elder society members who have achieved wisdom from hardship and still reflect and project a peaceful mindfulness.

This free verse poem seems to be about the fight to get to sleep and the fight to wake up. It seems to say the quiet times are good to use to reach your higher power.
It think you repeat "mind my own business" too may times. I also the word 'hour" after church mouse isn't needed.
Maybe the lines can read Crazy thoughts came
Quiet as a door mouse
In these quiet hours
Perhaps you can relate
Good luck in the contest.
Keep writnig and stay healthy
Joan

"Mind, Body, Spirit" is full of profound and yet daily occurrences for we "older" folks. I found myself smiling and then grimacing as I read each line. I must remind myself from time to time that not everyone gets to experience these middle of the night excursions and be thankful. Well done.
Blessings
Janet

I use to be seventy-two. I do remember those days well. This is a good reflective entry for the contest, good luck! I do like the reminders to mind your own business. As you get a little older you will find that you don't have much business to mind, and you don't mind! Good job. Terry.
