This is a nice pastoral romantic poem done in this ode form, and I think you did a great job capturing the look and feel of the mountain landscape in this moment after a thunderstorm. You have the cacaphony of the lightning and the thunder, and then the colors and the lushness of the landscape emerging from underneath it. it really is a movement from anxiety to peace, from unsettled to resignation. estory

I'm going to look up all those plants so I can picture its beauty. That aside, I can't say enough about how well written this is. Btw, I love a good storm. You did an excellent job with the imagery. Loved this. Best, JohnC

There is some incredible imagery in this lovely poem. The difference between a storm hanging overhead in the dark of night, and sending dark, spooky, images when the lightning flashes, to the lovely sun drenched morning when all is well in the world. Beautifully written, and a pleasure to read. Good luck in the contest. Sandra xx

LOVE your poem about the mountain range I can see from my dining room window. You used great poetic devices such as metaphors and personification. Great lines like ~Dark clouds roiling and boiling like a pot
of grits about to spill over onto the stovetop.
Another great example of personification is this line~mist
that begins skipping, hopping, like a dance hall.
I was an interpretative park ranger for 17 summers, so I know so well the descriptions you have given. Good stuff so good luck in the contest. I hope you win.

Sandra, Wow! I am truly honored! You on the job knowledge coupled with your gifted writing skill makes me feel strongly validated in my free verse. A style that I find my soul gravitates toward most often. Be well this wonderful day that the Lord has made for us both.

I like the image the poets words planted in my head and the picture added to the ambience of the poem. Good luck in the contest and thank you for sharing. Have a great weekend.

I love this one. Beautiful lyrical imagery, so well expressed that I could see and feel both the power of the storm and the calm beauty of the following morning.
Best wishes for this lovely poem - it should do well in the contest.

Typos: no capital needed for "kaleidoscope" and should "pullback" be two words?

This poetic is a feast involving the senses. The aural imagery of the thunder boiling on the window sills and in the skies.

To those sounds the visual imagery is equally stunning.

I truly enjoyed the cornucopia of Appalachian Mountain flora.

Wishing you great luck in the booth. :))

like this homage to the Appalachia Mountain region. I never lived there, but my mother grew up in the Ozark mountains near Little Rock. great traditional verse.

I got lost in this beautiful poem, and I thank you for posting it. Your lines held perfect culturally-based imagery that took me back again and again to the poem's title, and I loved all those plant species listed. Really graceful work that you should be proud of. Good luck to you!
