Yeah? Wanna' dance? Let's dance... Welcome to Hiroshima.
Putin ought to remember his history. All I'm going to say... and he ought to remember that Sarah Palin said she could see Russia from her front porch. lol

Tora! Tora! Tora! Shouted the Japanese as they caught the Americans sunbaking. A shocking attack with high fatalities. Tit for Tat atomic bombs dropped on innocent people in Japan. Nagasaki and Hiroshima flattened. Casualties of war or payback? Unforgivable both.

Yes, Japan awoke the sleeping giant. Your poem read
well It was filled with great facts and imagery. I really
like the lines about the leaking oil for the USS Arizona.
It's sad to think so many haven't a clue about Pearl Harbor
and probably don't want to take the time to learn.
Thanks for sharing and Thank You for your service, Jan

a moving tribute to the heroes who died at Pearl Harbor. I recall the time I visited the Pearl harbor memorial and felt the spirits of the dead all around me that day.

This is a powerful and passionate poem and your title says it all, Earl.
Japan's biggest mistake
A fine poem in tribute to those who lost their lives and those who went on to fight. Well written, and good luck in the contest.

Great writing on this prompt and use of the Memorial. As a veteran, I have to believe that what you're witnessing in today's patriotic movement may not have the backbone that stood tall and forceful within that 'Great Generation'. Thank you

Earl, this was a terrific poem depicting the wake up call for the Americans. The war was suddenly at their doorstep, and in a sense this was to help the rest of the world. I wish you the best in the contest. Ulla:)))

You poem captures what happened at Pearl Harbor that day. I often wondered why they considered us their enemy. I guess I didn't learn that in school. Your poem made me go back and read so I could understand better what was behind the attack. They did indeed awake a sleeping giant and they paid dearly for a serious mistake.

I went to the Pearl Harbor memorial in the seventies. It was sobering, to say the least. This was a wonderful poetic synopsis of the moment that changed the course of the war. So thankful that my parents were part of that great generation. They gave all, whether on the battlefront or the home front. Loved your tribute. Gretchen
