Write an Awdl Gynt poem
The Awdl Gynt is a modified pantygynt form, which was created by our very talented Jim (Pantygynt).
Because the rhyme scheme is made up of a certain amount of cross rhyme a cycle can be shown graphically as follows with x being unrhymed syllables and rhymed syllables shown as usual with other letters. The metre is iambic throughout.
x x x x x x x a (tetrameter)
x x x a x b (trimeter)
x x x x x x x a (tetrameter)
x a x x x b (trimeter)
x x x x x x x c (tetrameter)
x x x x x x x c (tetrameter)
x x x x x x x c (tetrameter)
x x x c x b (trimeter)
The poem may consist of any number of these cycles. The line spacing between the components of the cycle is optional and can be omitted in the interests of enjambment.
An example speaks a thousand words.
Summer (May through August)
Spring shades of green have come to stay
on branches grey and sere,
as summer comes with month of May,
and haymaking draws near.
The indecisive days of spring,
that oft-times to cold winter cling,
we wish would warmer weather bring.
The changes ring out clear.
The apple orchards' blossoms bloom,
attracting zooming bees,
and lilacs, with their sweet perfume,
assume to scent the trees.
Inexorably passing by
mad minutes, like sweet song birds, fly
and swoop beneath the halcyon sky;
time ticks on sighing breeze.
All June, July and August through,
the dusty crew work round
the clock in fields and sheep sheds too
on new-mown hay. Here sounds
the harvest home and sheep shorn short,
the lambs when weaned, their bleats distraught.
While on the moorland shooting ought
to bring the sportsmen round.
