Write a Shakespearean Sonnet
Poetry Contest
Write a Shakespearean sonnet. It is to be in iambic pentameter with a rhyme scheme of: abab cdcd efef gg. Metric substitutions are okay as long as they are intentional and further the piece. MISTAKES are NOT metrical substitutions.
It is often said that free verse poets write free verse because they are UNABLE to write the more "DIFFICULT" structured forms that the REAL poets write.
Those who make such claims are what one would call WRONG.
Just a little break from our amazing free verse poetry to demonstrate that, yep, we can knock off a sonnet with the best of them!
The contest winner will win half of the prize pool of 90.00 member dollars. In this contest at least 5 submissions must be made for the vote to begin.
Deadline: Contest is closed. Deadline was Saturday, June 16, 2018.
