I got your email
I didn't want to read
but part of me knew
we had reached the end.
You said you met someone
that was ‘a better fit'.
Did you forget?
Once we kept our passion aflame
in our tender hearts.
Don’t you remember all the times
we sailed through the night
amidst burning stars.
But I lost you
and there is no way
of turning back
to when our love
was more than enough.
I tried begging,
taking pills to dull the pain,
praying to God,
but it felt like
no one was above.
After an ocean of tears,
I moved on
but the grief remains inside
and I know
the flame of my love
will never die.

it wasn’t the tears
that told me tales of her grief —
it was the last petal
of the opened rose

Tanka is a Japanese unrhymed poem having about 12 to 31 syllables usually arranged in five lines and read in about two breaths in length when read aloud. The first poets who wrote tanka imitated the Japanese models of a 5-7-5-7-7 syllabic structure in five lines. This resulted in poems that were too long in comparison to Japanese tanka. The first tanka were padded or chopped to meet the fixed number of syllables. Additionally, the third line must transition from the descriptive and image-focused beginning lines into a reflective metaphor, simile, or personification for the closing lines. The subject matter varies, but most tanka are emotionally stirring or profound, and many are about love. click here if you want to read modern tanka examples === click here to read Tanka Society of America === click here if you want to read modern tanka rules

I’m envious of the rain
that touches your face
and paints
your body’s silhouette
I’m envious of the night
that cuddles with you
from dusk till dawn
while you dream of us
I’m envious of the wind
that tosses your hair
in a playful way
with susurrous of love
I wish you and your girl
the best in life
but part of me wishes
it wasn’t like that
it’s hard for me
to know you moved on

I forgot …
we are not together
anymore
and the roses you gave me
with smooth stems
turned to thorns
I forgot …
you left me
with a bag of empty promises
and a load of lies
I forgot …
how cruel you are
not even in dreams,
you can commit
to love
I forgot …
after using my body
to pad your twisted ego
you left me lying there
on the freezing floor
I forgot …

one last night
of making love
the way only you could —
in the morning
you’ll be gone
but we still have tonight
the summer eve breeze
makes itself at home
sneaking through
the open door
tossing your messy hair
but we still have tonight
a veil of jasmine scent
covers our bared skins
entwined with our smell
of lemon and lavender
of amber and musk
but we still have tonight
in the silver moonlight
your sienna eyes shine
with speckles of stars
and I get lost in your sky
miles away from home
but we still have tonight
your mouth tastes
like chocolate-covered berries —
your kisses are so sweet
I never want to stop
kissing you
but we still have tonight
only the Nigel bird
knows my loneliness
as I hear his melancholic song
my heart yearns for us
and I don't want to say goodbye
but we still have tonight
Author Notes |
Nigel is the only New Zealand gannet bird of its kind. He died this week surrounded by 80 concrete birds. The decoy figures were originally placed on the island to lure more gannets to the island but ended up as the lonely bird's only companions.
The bird lived on Mana Island for almost three years and spent every one of those years trying to win the affection of the inanimate fake birds placed there by conservationists in an effort to repopulate the island. Nigel hoped to win the friendship of all the fake birds on the island, but there was one particular fake bird that truly won his heart, his concrete sweetheart. Nigel spent years completing mating rituals in order to win over his lover. He even built a nest for her and tried his best to groom her. Nigel never did woo his stone lover and his dead body was found next to her. Thank you for taking the time to read and review my poem. Gypsy pictures from pinterest |

My hand tests the water
of the zigzagging river
that carries away
my melancholic mood
and summons me
to the deepest end
The wind sighs and whispers
your name
along with dried drifting leaves
carrying
my destined to fail
hope to find you
I taste bitter-sweet cranberries
and I'm tempted to try
the deadly brown recluse
all reminiscent of your love
The purple dusk is beautiful
and a last futile try to cheer me up
before the impending sunset
says goodbye
The mums smell like death
as I lie on the cold ground
yearning for the feeling
of your warm body
next to mine

At the break of dusk,
I hear the demon below and behind.
It teases and plays with my head
to drive me insane.
that never stops to rest.
It lurks in the halls all night,
i'll torment me till I die.
My dad and sister think I lie,
I feel like I’m going mad.
Who is going to believe a kid?
Grown-ups look at me aghast.
I know soon it'll drag me to hell
where I'll stay.

Most women are afraid for their lives and if they have children it's even worse. The cycle of abuse often goes through four main stages: tension, incident, reconciliation, and calm. Zombie apocalypse is a genre of fiction in which society collapses due to overwhelming swarms of zombies. Shelley has inspired me to write a brevette (*=*) The Brevette, created by Emily Romano consists of a subject (noun), verb, and object (noun), in this exact order. The verb should show an ongoing action. This is done by spacing out the letters in the verb. There are only 3 words in the poem, giving it the title Brevette. Each of the three words may have any number of syllables, but it is desirable that the poem has balance in the choice of these words. Unlike haiku, there are no other rules to follow. rules from poets collective rules from shadowpoetry examples Thank you for reading my poem. Gypsy pictures from pinterest |
