Exceptional
This work has reached the exceptional level
A little girl and friend.

Her Pal

by Willie P. Smith

Her hair was long
And the color of gold.
She was a beautiful girl
At nine years old.

He was a big sorrel gelding
About twice her size.
Their love for each other
Showed in their eyes.

I used to watch her
Out in the corral.
The love she shared
With her big red pal.

The years have passed now,
She's a woman full grown.
She still visits him often
In a spot all his own.

Flowers grow wild
Around a cross that reads,
"Here lies Rowdy,
King of steeds."

Rhyming Poetry Contest contest entry

I owned a big sorrel gelding cutting horse I used in working cattle. He was the best horse I ever owned. My grand daughter fell in love with him and he followed her around my ranch in Prescott Arizona. I found him in his stall one morning. He was 26 and died from a stroke. He was my pal also.
