Free form monologue
Leaving hospital today
I'm going home today.
I've outstayed my welcome.
I must say
I'm not looking forward to it,
Not one bit.
So boring.
No-one ever comes to call
well except that silly nurse woman
but only when it suits her.
Oh well I've got the T.V.
but it's so cold in January.
I've got an electric heater
but it's so expensive to use
I can't afford to put it on,
not on my pension, no way.
It's so nice and warm here
and lots of folk to talk to.
The woman in the next bed, Mary
has a daughter, Stacey.
that comes to visit most days.
She sits on the bed
and chats to both of us.
She brings chocolate and magazines
for us to share.
Oh I will miss her.
Lovely girl.
They even bring you a menu here
so you can choose
what you want to eat at mealtimes.
Oh it's grand
and I just love breathing
with that ventilator thing they have,
It's so easy.
They said I had to leave yesterday
But I coughed so much
they've let me stay another day.
Reprieve
but they've made me get out of bed now
and gone to order transport
and get my pills.
Oh well.
Can't be helped.
You see ...
they need the bed.
