A Sonnet

Here and Now

by Jessica Wheeler

The echoes of our yesterdays will ring

Reverberating on the path we tread

With only whispered woes for us to sing

Because we long for words that are unsaid

We fight to hold what won't remain in hand

Our dwelling minds know not what this betrays

It slips away like grains of drifting sand

To scatter with the breeze like fleeting days

But as the waking wind comes in from night

We feel the warming sun upon our skin

A life is meant to live in morning's light

With fresh and crisp new air to breathe therein

For all tomorrow holds will still remain

Today's the only thing it can't contain

Sonnet Poetry Contest contest entry

This sonnet is meant to emphasize the significance of living in the present, where things are tangible and full of potential.

It is far too easy to get caught up in the duplicity of time. Many days are spent worrying about the future, or longing to hold on to what is in the past.
Pays one point and 2 member cents.
