How my first grandchild came into being
My First Grandchild
by Monica Chaddick
My first grandchild, a girl, was born on September 21, 2010. Her mother was sixteen, her father, eighteen. Her other grandmother was having an affair with my daughter's biological father. This made visitations complicated, as, although he wasn't married to me, he was married to a friend of mine. Therefore, they wouldn't come visit whenever anyone from my family was there.
The other grandmother claimed she would make a wreath for my daughter, but because they did the c-section one day early, she refused to do it. My other daughter and I made a wreath for her instead.
My husband and I had thrown our daughter a shower, to show her that we supported her. The other grandmother decided she would do the same. She invited all of my ex's family (which I had done, as well). They didn't show up to mine, but they did to hers. Her food wasn't ready in time, and her cake had ants in it, so I guess you do sometimes get what you deserve.
The gifts given at our shower were practical, the gifts at the second shower were not.
By the time my daughter and her husband had their second child, the husband's mother wasn't involved at all. She was no longer in their lives.
Many times I attempted to help reconcile, and many times my daughter and her husband tried, but his mother just would not cooperate. Finally, when all was said and done, he cheated on my daughter and went back to his mother.
Today, my daughter is a successful business manager and is managing her second business. Her daughter just graduated eighth grade, and her son moved to seventh. Her daughter was head of the Pep Squad and her son played football last year.
They are all doing well, and I am SO proud!
