I'm late! I'm Late! What can I do?
Barefoot in the Rain
by Begin Again
Kendra shoved the remaining letters into her desk drawer, muttering, "Tomorrow." She checked the clock, grabbed an umbrella, and hurried out.
As she raced toward the station to catch the last train, her heel caught in a crack, snapping off. A glance at her watch told her she didn't have a second to waste. She slipped off her shoes, stuffed them in her bag, and ran barefoot as she heard last call.
Kendra moaned. The train doors were closing.
Suddenly, a hand grasped her hand and pulled her inside.
Breathless, Kendra looked up into sparkling blue eyes. "Thank you," was all she could manage.
He chuckled, glancing at her bare feet. "I'm new to the city. Is this a new fashion trend?"
Kendra blushed. "Broken heel."
He nodded with a smile, and warmth spread from her toes to the top of her head. Standing shoulder to shoulder, she found herself speechless, a rarity, according to her friends.
When the train reached his stop, he hesitated before stepping out. "Same time tomorrow?"
Kendra smiled and nodded as the doors closed. She didn't believe in love at first sight, but her heart was doing double flips.
Would he be there tomorrow?
She hoped so, but next time, she'd wear shoes.
