Railroad
by victortouche
Railroad, railroad...
talk to me made of steel and laid on trees. Come on railroad talk to me. Tell me stories. Tell me tales, of those great and mighty rails. Walked your tracks for many a mile. Used your ditches to sleep in style. Come on railroad stay a while. Home to hobo. Sights to see. Come on railroad carry me. On and on right through the plains. Just prairie grass and cattle graze. Come on railroad walk with me. Seems my strifes are gonna bury me. Give me blue sky and an open freight. Come on railroad keep me straight. I'm walkin' long. I'm walkin' lone. Come on railroad take me home. Railroad, railroad... |

Don't look for a progression of a story, beginning to end. This is a snapshot. A feeling. A solitary walking...of the rails. Grew up in the midwest. Walked the tracks from boredom. Walked the tracks to pick wild asparagus for supper. Nothing like it. Silence. Wind. Contemplation. This poem should just whisper as the wind carries it. Thank you.
