An attic of memories.

What is behind the door?
Trunks of rusty recollections Lessons of baby's right and wrong Rocking lullabies of cradle dolls Mickey Mouse and Donald Duck Gretel crying 'cause Hansel went away. What is behind the door? Giggles of girlhood, troubles of teens Dreams that paddled the canoe of youth Shells echoing the sound of waves From the shores that once I strolled along The wisdom that lead and guided through And the departures timely and untimely What is behind the closed doors? Dried roses of lost love Still retained the fragrance Sharp fragments of broken mirror Powerful even now to hurt. Silver bells of my anklets recall Carefree moments of merriment Melodies once lifted the heart so high Now asleep in the unused chords A gentle whiff of nostalgia Would often open the closed door. |
