free verse

Dawn

Dawn
exists only as a concept
until vision bursts onto the scene
like an unannounced inspector
examining, presuming
exhuming dusk's deaths
aligning bones to count and recount
yesterday


Yawn
as imploding lungs
intake and make the new day
oxygenated
detoxifying the poisoned psyche
tortured by dream demons
now nullified
by new air


Fawn
 feral figure on a first day
new chances
like a deer crossing
from fallow fields to fine flora
rutting, wasting, warring
the dark forest left behind
freedom
