I Didn't Know

by Y. M. Roger

Lyrical Poem Contest Winner
The author has placed a warning on this post for language.

I didn’t know the day that you walked in
with that sexy bod and that cocky grin.
I didn‘t know the room'd become too small
for the two of us, but I do recall…

[CHORUS]
        That I –
          – asked your name and you raised that brow,
wond’rin’ who the hell I thought

              that  I  was  anyhow…
Undeterred, I took another step in,

met that brow with a smirk,

     and I asked you again.

I didn’t know how much a touch could burn
how a kiss could brand, but I shortly learned
I didn’t know the feel of fire* on ice

or that passion’s cost was so high a price…

[CHORUS]
        When you –

        – asked my name and I raised my brow,

wond’rin’ who the hell you thought

              that  you  were  anyhow…
Undeterred, you took another step in,

met my brow with that smirk,

      and you asked me again.

I didn’t know how damn hard I could fall,
how your vexing air could my heart enthrall
I didn’t know it’d hurt to walk away

how you’d changed my life that very first day…

[CHORUS]
        When I –

        – asked your name and you raised that brow,

wond’rin’ who the hell I thought

             that I was anyhow
Undeterred, I took another step in,

met that brow with a smirk…

    Yeah, I shoulda known then.**

I didn’t know that you had won my soul,
how you’d become home and you’d make me whole
I didn’t know then, babe, but hear this vow:

          I’ll remind you ev’ry day

I sure as hell know now!

[Repeat chorus as desired]

*fire is pronounced with one syllable here.

**if I were actually writing the music here, I place a guitar solo here before the final verse.....but that's just me! :) ;)

Sorry, I cannot provide the rock band folks, but insert your favorite group with strong lead and give yourself a few moments... you'll be able to hear it booming through your mind's sound system! :) Thank you for indulging me! :) ;)
