Twenty Below with Snow

by JLR

When it is twenty below with snow
or warning of a blow
surely have ready a ton of coal
and grandma's hand-made throw;
socks on toes.

Don't forget to stack wood by the hearth,
wise to wear a warm scarf,
put extra bedding on the low berth
stay dry for all you're worth;
socks on toes.

Stoking hearth aglow with a wood fire
keeping matches drier
in the pockets of winter attire
wear gloves that you desire;
socks on toes.

Should the roads close best stay in the house
and snuggle close with spouse
hug her closer when she spots a mouse
hunker down, cook a grouse;
socks on toes.

Potlatch Poetry Club: Cole's Rhythm--week of 1-3-2020

Topic for Cole's Rhythm--your poem should describe HOW people or animals deal with the cold weather (this isn't describing cold weather like snow, icicles, etc).
~~~~~~~
Coles Rhythm:
a new style created by Gungalo, a major force here on Fanstory, who has since departed. She passed away in May of 2014.
~~~~~~~
Syllable count is: 9-6-9-6-3 for each verse.

Rhyme scheme: aaaaR bbbbR ccccR ddddR.

The "R" is a 3-syllable refrain and each should rhyme or repeat the other in every verse.
