Shifting Sands
When mysteries emerge from the mundane
and catch us by surprise and unaware,
our thoughts rebel, begrudge them as profane,
resisting any knowledge that they're there.
The commonplace must stay within its bounds
and not bestir the normal way of things.
We'll subjugate the changes that confound;
we need the normalcy the mundane brings.
For, when we're forced to look beneath veneers,
discovering a deeper, hidden theme,
our world no longer safely perseveres,
old bedrock quakes when truths aren't as they seem.
New normals seem so hard to understand,
when built upon hotbeds of shifting sand.
